The Newfie Bullet
It is a whistle from one of Newfoundland's now defunct trains along with a photo of the same. The base has been made from railroad ties and holds 4 rail spikes as well as the whistle. Trains in Newfoundland were nicknamed the "Newfie Bullet" during WWII when they were used extensively to transport military personnel. Because they were only a narrow gauge, the trains were slow, on occasion gaining a speed of 50 mph, but only when pushed hard! The province of Newfoundland-Labrador shut down and disassembled the railroad during the 1980's, so this is an especially nice bit of history to be able to hand down.
