Johann Georg Schönfelder II  - Luthier ( Violin maker) of Germany

A fine violin dated and signed by Johann Georg Schönfelder 1799 branded: I.G.S

The German Lothier extraordinare Johann Georg Schönfelder II of Markneukirchen, Germany was one of a long line of German violin makers or 'Lothiers.'

Though little is recorded of his life, his talent was exceptional both as a maker and as a musician who trained many apprentices and musicians.

In the final analysis, the family concern was to be taken over by one of Schonfelders most talented apprentices Johan Gottlob Heberlein and revert to the Heberlein family who have made exquisite violins up until the present day

The all important documented evidence, the violins provenance, dates from 1944 when the violin was purchased from the German and famous violin maker and dealer Albert Guth.

The violin has been passed down through the family to the current owner, now living in Saskatchewan.
